What It Is

GHK-Cu is a naturally occurring copper-binding tripeptide (glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine bound to copper). It is present in human plasma but declines sharply with age — from your 20s into your 60s — which tracks with the slowdown in skin repair over the same period.

It is one of the most studied cosmetic peptides in existence. GHK-Cu signals the body to remodel and regenerate tissue: stimulating collagen and elastin, acting as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, supporting wound healing, and influencing a remarkably broad set of repair-related genes.

Most evidence is in skin and hair, where it is used both topically (creams, serums) and by injection. Topical use has the deepest cosmetic track record; systemic injected use is more experimental.

What People Use It For

Skin Rejuvenation

Boosts collagen and elastin, improving firmness, fine lines and overall skin quality.

Multiple human topical studies show improved skin appearance and collagen

Wound & Tissue Healing

Accelerates wound closure and tissue remodeling.

Well-documented in preclinical and wound-care research

Hair Growth

Supports follicle size and hair density, often alongside minoxidil.

Promising early data; common in hair formulations

How Strong Is the Evidence?

We rate every peptide honestly across four dimensions — and tell you what it's not.

Evidence Profile

Emerging

The best-studied copper peptide. Solid topical/cosmetic human data for skin; injectable and systemic claims are far less proven.

Promising but early. Strong animal data and/or small/preliminary human studies, not yet confirmed in robust trials.

Human Evidence

Moderate

Controlled trials & clinical data in people

Multiple human cosmetic studies support topical skin benefits.

Animal Evidence

Strong

Preclinical results in animal models

Strong animal data for wound healing and tissue remodeling.

Mechanistic Rationale

Strong

How plausibly it works at a biological level

Well-described roles in collagen synthesis, copper transport, and wound signaling.

Safety Data

Moderate

Depth of documented safety in humans

Topical use well tolerated; injectable copper dosing needs care.

What GHK-Cu Is Not

  • Not proven for hair regrowth to the degree often marketed.
  • Injectable systemic benefits are not as evidenced as topical skin effects.

Key Unknowns

  • ?Do injected/systemic forms outperform topical application?
  • ?Copper-loading risk with chronic injectable use.

Who It's For

Men

Topical is the most proven route; injected use is more experimental — start conservatively. Pairs naturally with a good skincare routine.

Women

Women targeting skin rejuvenation, fine lines and hair density

The best-researched beauty peptide. Topical serums are low-risk; copper can tint solutions blue, which is normal. Avoid injected use in pregnancy.
